I have now made the effort to update all interactive PHP notation pages from PHP 5 to PHP 8.2 in order to make them work after last weeks web hotel system change that finally outdated the old code from 2014. After being unaccessible for a week, all Djembe N.E.T. notation is now readable as well as playable but can no longer be edited. The editing option will only be updated on demand.

At last I have made an update to the Notation Playback freeware and all of the notation playback services at this website. It is an online community based service called the Djembe Notation Exchange Team (Djembe N.E.T.) Check it out by clicking the link and try it on for size!

[February 9]

I have just updated the audio playback functions of the Notation Playback Rhythm Exchange section of this site. All the rhythms are now playable in modern browsers like Explorer 9, Firefox 7, Chrome 13 or later.

I'm now starting a complete makover of the website, and the first thing to be replaced is the old menu (which didn't work with Firefox browsers). The new menu is based on CSS coding and should work with all modern browsers. (Please alert me if you have any problems with it!)

[February 23]

After having focused entirely on my domestic business (www.djembe.se) for a couple of years, I am now redirecting some of my attention back to the international scene.

My website www.djembe.net has always had a top ranking with the search engines,
and I am now opening up for djembe related advertising on my web pages. This policy change is due to the fact that the increased average display size has made it possible to include ads on a page without compromising the original page layout.

Someone is sending virus email stating <lennart.hallstrom@djembe.net> or <anyname@djembe.net> as the sender. I am of course NOT sending such mail,
NOR is it sent from my computer by means of a virus infection.

Most people should know that I usually never send email from that address except when I´m answering mail. Instead, this is probably what is happening:

Someone has noticed that my website "www.djembe.net" is well known and much referred to. Therefore, any email seemingly sent in my name would appear serious, and an attachment is more likely to be opened - which would activate any enclosed virus.

Anybody who is capable of programming automated spamming code can do this, i.e. state ANY email address as the sender of such email. This kind of faking is similar to ordering something from a website using someone else´s name and email address.

I have recently not only got such mail from "myself", but also from other well known people in the global djembe community who have published rhythm notation on their websites. Maybe someone is trying to give us a bad name by doing this, or maybe it is just a coincidence.

Either way, you should beware of any mail from my mail adress and from any name attached to "@djembe.net" (unless it is an answer to a mail that you have sent me).

I will be on tour this summer from June 25 to August 15 and only attend business when passing through Stockholm. If you order anything during this period, be prepared to wait up to two weeks for order confirmation and shipment.

The Swedish pages at www.djembe.net has now been moved to www.djembe.se . www.djembe.net will be in English only and www.djembe.se will be in Swedish only.

This is due to my expanding activities in Sweden and the opening of my very own djembe shop/lecture hall/recording studio called the DJEMBE CENTER.

There will, of course, be reciprocal links and references at both websites.

Dans-kalendariet är nu uppdaterat med höstens kursprogram.

Nya upplagor av läroboken Afrikanska trumrytmer och Studiehandledningen är klara!
I läroboken ingår nu 3 st exempel-CD med individuella spår för varje övning i boken.
Tillsammans innehåller de nästan 300 spår och har nära 3 timmars speltid.

If you are a Mac user or use an old browser, you will probably get no sound from playing back the online notation (see June 15). For now, I have no solution to this, apart from providing your browser with the LiveAudio plug-in that is included as default sound control in Netscape Navigator (since version 3).

Notation Playback 2.2 Upgrade Released Today!

New - Audible - Notation Playback Rhythm Exchange!

The major work of making all notation of the NP Rhythm Exchange audible is finally finished, along with a new release of the Notation Playback program that will make it incredibly easy to Import and Export the notated rhythms: Copy and Paste!

If you are an NP user, you can download the upgrade right away. The full version will take yet a few days to complete, and I also want to wait for any bug reports from the upgrade users before I launch it.

All of the rhythms at the S.H.A.R.E. site will gradually be added to the new Notation Playback Rhythm Exchange. This will eventually make the S.H.A.R.E. site quite redundant and it will be phased out when all rhythms have been transfered, while the new Rhythm Exchange will continue to develop and grow.

About the new starting page:

If you have a recent version of Internet Explorer, you should have no problems with the added animation and sound features on the starting page. If you are using Netscape Navigator, however, you will not be able to enjoy the rhythm for more than one period, due to the substandard loop handling in all NN versions (they all add silence between loops instead of playing them seamlessly, so I chose to disable looping alltogether).

I really do hope you are able to view the (semi-) animated dancer, who will start dancing as the rhythms begins when you move the mouse pointer over any of the pictures of me drumming. This whole setting is an attempt to illustrate the view that I am so used to from playing for dance classes: a dancer in focus right in front of me, fellow drummers in the corners of my eyes and the top of my djembe in the foreground.

That is truly the essence of drumming for me!
